Another planning task bites the dust. I booked the hotels I will be staying in while in Rio de Janiero. I booked two – one for before and another for after I get back from the mini-trip to Iguassu Falls.

It took me such a long time to make a decision about where to stay! I compared various neighbourhoods and researched all of the hotels located within them using Lonely Planet reference books, sites like Trip Advisor, Expedia, Price Line, and Travelocity.

When I first arrive in Rio, I will be staying in the Ipanema area in a hotel that is right on the beach! It’s a busy and bustling tourist area, is considered safe, close to shopping, has nice restaurants, and is near other beaches like Copacabana and Leblon. The area inspired the infamous song “The Girl from Ipanema” by Stan Getz & João Gilberto. I proudly have their album on my iPod!

When I return to Rio, I will be staying in the Santa Teresa area. This is known to be a quieter area of the city, inhabited more by locals than tourists. The neighbourhood is considered funky and bohemian, inhabited by many artists, has lots of great restaurants, bars, and galleries to see and experience.

Each area will offer a very different city experience. I am so happy with my choices and hope the hotels live up to their reputation. I can’t wait.
