Blue Footed Booby In The Galapagos Islands

This week’s photo is of a Blue Footed Booby, taken while I was touring the Galapagos Islands, with G Adventures in May 2007.

An excursion to the Galapagos Islands involves the observation of many animals such as the land iguana, aquatic iguanas, sea lions, various bird species like the blue-footed boobies, tortoises and more.

Well, the blue footed booby certainly ranks as one of my favorites! Not just because of it’s silly name that helps the locals sell provocative t-shirts to tourists, but because they can look stunning and regal one moment and cute and dopey the next.  I took many photos of these little guys and it was hilarious to see how different they looked in each one.

They may look similar to seagulls, but those bright blue feet put them in a league of their own.

[…] As a result of my father passing away, I came into a small amount of money. While I did sensible things like pay off debts and invest in some minor home renovations, I decided that I’d travel somewhere in the world that seemed exotic, wild and  unreachable. I wanted to go somewhere to where few people travelled. I was looking for an experience of a lifetime. One evening, I started hard at globe and found that exact place – the Galapagos Islands! My dream came true in May 2007, when I spent five days cruising the islands getting to know sea lions, land iguanas and blue footed boobies.
