Street Art And Graffiti In Krakow.

Krakow is seriously one of the coolest cities I’ve visited to date. The gritty rough exterior of the abandoned buildings, the tragic history, the underground pubs and plethora of art galleries were surely all appealing but I mean … it was really really really freaking cold.

Temperatures hovered around -15 degrees Celsius! It was so frigid that I reluctantly donned a man repelling down filled parka, a pair of ultra sexy long johns and a fuzzy hat that had me looking like Chewbacca’s wife before venturing out to explore.

It also seemed appropriate to sneak in a couple of shots of the local vodka. It helps to keep you warm, really it does.

Camera and Lonely Planet guidebook in hand, I walked around the Jewish district of Kazimierz and Krakow’s Old Town like a cliched obvious tourist begging to be hustled or robbed. As usual, I sought to find something more than the obvious attractions like Wawel Royal Castle or the dragon cave that lies underneath.

I happily found many instances of street art and graffiti.

Krakow proves to be the perfect setting for this renegade, guerilla artform. Through touring the city’s streets, I learned that local artists have a preoccupation with fascists, love a good Star Wars reference and apparently Reebok shoes!?

STAR WARS! Being the sci-fi nerd that I am, this almost blew my mind. This is quite possibly one of my favorite instances of street art ever, ever, ever.

While the following antifascist stamp isn’t all that remarkable, I love the composition of the photo itself … the red of the paint set against the cracked yellow wall with that seedy bar in the background.
