Instagramming Street Art in San Francisco – Take 1.

July 6, 2013

My love for street art began in Europe. My all time favorite street art (mostly because it features Star Wars references) comes out of Poland – specifically Szczecin and Krakow. Berlin’s street art isn’t so bad either!

So whenever and wherever I travel, I love nothing more than walking through a city photographing street art. It’s an interesting way to get to know the city you’re visiting.

I spent last weekend hanging out in San Francisco and was delighted to take these Instagram street art pictures in North Beach, the Mission and Dogpatch neighbourhoods.

Let’s start with the street art in North Beach, San Francisco’s Italian neighbourhood and where the Beat writers like William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac used to hang out.

This my friends, is an instance of non other than Banksy himself! Yep, yep, yep.

There are books in the air and everywhere. Love the musical themed mural in the background as well.

This can be found along a wall in Jack Kerouac Alley.

A Beat writer quote and also, very true.

The Mission District is home to some of San Francisco’s very best street art.

One might say I found my Personal Jesus in the Mission.

So while this is not typical street art like stencils, stickers or spray painted images, I couldn’t help but love these sidewalk fixtures. So disturbing yet really freaking cool!

Thought these dog paw prints were a cute touch in San Francisco’s lesser explored but hip and cool Dogpatch neighbourhood.

I call this post “take one” because believe or not, I have EVEN MORE photos of San Francisco street art to show you. Stay turned for my next post – I know you just can’t wait!

Nice to see these photos. I wish I had more time in San Francisco when I was there last year, but I was so focused on the burritos I completely missed the street art.

Adam – “I was so focused on the burritos I completely missed the street art.” You’re so cute! 🙂

While burritos in the Mission are a worthy undertaking, you’ve noted some key works of art, especially at the corner of Broadway and Columbus!

Henry – I feel like I missed out by not having burritos now. I did have some Mexican weirdly enough in North Beach though! I’m so in love with this city, could definitely live there for a while.

Those street arts are cute and funny. I love the one with dog foot prints. This gives me an idea to also take photos of street arts here in our place. 😉

Jemma – Indeed! The dog foot prints are especially cute.
