Taking at look back at my Top Ten Instagram Photos ever – I was surprised to discover that only two of my photos were from Europe and that not one of them was from one of my travel adventures to places like Lisbon, Budapest or San Francisco.
I remember thinking that my Instagram feed was going to get pretty boring when I moved home to Canada after 18 months in Berlin. I guess I was wrong as the most Likes were given to my Toronto Instagram photos.
Something else that completely baffles me is that most of these photos were taken while travelling back and forth between work! Have I accomplished the impossible and made commuting within the GTA interesting? Even after my brief appearance on a CBC show years ago? Maybe so.
Let’s take a look at my top ten instagram photos ever, counting down from ten.

I spend about four hours per day commuting on public transit. This means leaving for work early in the morning and coming home late, giving me plenty of chances to get those cliched sunrise and sunset photos everyone loves so much.
I took this while on the bus to work on a frosty March morning, just before 8 AM. It was a rare sunny day and the sunlight was rather happily reflected off of the skyscrapers in Toronto’s downtown core.

I wait at this spot each night to take the bus South down Hurontario to Square One. While the view itself is pretty unremarkable at any given time, it all changes with a spectacular sunset like this. Taken just this past week around 9:00 PM.

The grimness of a Canadian winter in Toronto. The trees are bare, it’s cold and rather colourless. Snapped last December on the way home from work.
To be honest, I find this photo particularly depressing and totally uninspired. I don’t understand why it garnered so much love on Instagram.

Spring finally brought warmer weather in May so I eagerly took a bike ride along Toronto’s East Lakeshore. The evening sky was beautiful from Sugar Beach that night.

TBEX came to town in June for a giant travel blogging conference giving me to chance to be all nerdy about my blog and reunite with old friends.
Us lucky bloggers were treated to a party on Toronto island where we all spent the evening admiring the super pretty landscape of my hometown.

Further proof I’ve managed to turn a boring commute into something that seems remotely interesting? People really seem to like my urban landscape photos that I snap from a moving bus and over-stylize in photo editing apps like Dynamic Light.

There are few things more beautiful than fall in Berlin. This was one of the last Instagram pictures I took during my time as a Berlin expat and was the view from my bedroom window one morning last November.

I used to wait here every day to catch the M4 tram to Alexanderplatz on my way to work. This photo was taken near the intersection of Griefswalderstr and Hufelandstr in Prenzlauer Berg just last October.
These last two photos makes me want to weep as I long for the time when I can experience another glorious fall in the Hauptstadt.

We had an unusually warm day in March and I went for a bike ride along the lake! What a brilliant way to spend a Saturday. I actually got off my bike at Cherry Beach, perched along the lakeside and basked in the sun for a couple hours with this as my view. Loveeeee …

I remember that years ago, I read the plans about these buildings (Absolute World Towers) before it became an actual reality. I thought that they looked ridiculous then and I still think they do now after seeing it with my own eyes. While the style is funky and modern, it’s surrounded by an otherwise plain and boring looking landscape. Sorry Mississauga, it just doesn’t belong!
Regardless, for some reason people like tall buildings that look twisted and bent out of shape.
