Win a GoPro Hero 3 With Southall Travel!

October 9, 2014

Note – this contest is now closed.

About two years ago, I went paragliding in the Italian Alps. Our tour company offered to take GoPro photos or videos to capture the experience.

I went with the photo option and now have this shot which shows me at a moment, when I was simultaneously anxious, scared, happy and exhilarated.

It’s now my favourite photo of myself ever, as I never thought that I’d be brave enough to try paragliding. I’m actually scared of heights and it took a lot of courage to run off the side of that mountain.

Great Contest and that photo of you paragliding is in incredible! What an exhilarating experience that must have been! I’m a bit of a chicken normally but through my travels I’ve been forcing myself to “get out there” so I’ve signed up to go zip lining over the gators at Gatorland in Kissimmee this winter – would be great to “GoPro” that experience!

    • Reply Cheryl Howard October 12, 2014 at 12:39 PM

Thanks Mary! It was an amazing experience which I hope to try somewhere else in the world one day. Good luck in the contest! 🙂

  • Reply Steve Zitur October 9, 2014 at 12:22 PM

Not quite a vacation trip, but we are planning on visiting the new zipline course we have built, and would love to record going down that, through the mountains and over the trees.

  • Reply Amber Primdahl October 9, 2014 at 12:24 PM

This would be so amazing to win! 🙂 As a photographer, I’m always taking photos of others so it would be nice to get photos of myself on my travels. I would also be able to bring it into situations that my DSLR can’t handle (Scuba diving ftw!)

    Ps. Amazing sky paragliding photo!

Thanks Amber! Good luck in the contest.

I’ll be going on vacation to the Dominican Republic soon! It would be amazing to taking the GoPro diving with me, as well as cliff diving and zip ligning!!

Most definitely taking on our trip to Disney World with our (by then 7 year old) triplets. Be fun to document everything from the plane ride, to the visit to Magic Kingdom to all of the rides and attractions. What a great contest Cheryl.

  • Reply Candice Walsh October 9, 2014 at 5:09 PM

Sweeeet! I want to keep creating travel vignette videos like I did with my Balkans trip. It worked really well…people loved it.

  • Reply Alex Berger October 9, 2014 at 5:53 PM

Love that shot. Still not sure if i’d be brave enough to give it a go or not. Looks like an amazing time though!

How would I use the GoPro? I’ve been itching to mount one on a bike to capture bicycle rush hour in Copenhagen…while getting a bit creative with it.

  • Reply Adam Groffman October 9, 2014 at 6:11 PM

I could definitely use some adventure in my life! I guess I’d probably use my GoPro next time I visit Greece…

Adam, you are one of THE most adventurous guys I know!

  • Reply Jenna Francisco October 9, 2014 at 6:54 PM

I would use it while being outdoors on my next trip to Europe, but I would also lend it to my dad to do some underwater photography and video.

  • Reply Erika Komori October 9, 2014 at 7:12 PM

I don’t even own a proper camera so this would be swell!

We live in Korea and have been able to travel all over Asia and beyond. Our next trip is Istanbul and Coppadocia and we hope to film ourselves flying over the beautiful landscape in a hot air balloon!

  • Reply Rannie Turingan October 10, 2014 at 4:01 AM

Amazing photo. If I won the go pro I would likely use it while driving on a roadtrip. Imagine driving around during peak fall colour season. Reds, Oranges and Yellows filling the screen

  • Reply Julia Evans October 10, 2014 at 6:06 AM

What a great shot of you!

I’d love a GoPro to capture shots like this. I want to use one cycling through the Vondelpark in Amsterdam and next time I hiking in the US!

    • Reply Cheryl Howard October 12, 2014 at 7:55 PM

Thank you Julia. Best of luck in the contest. 🙂

What a great competition. We have been looking at a Go Pro for some time now because they appear to be so versatile. We are heading off to New Zealand and Australia for our next big break and would love the opportunity to gain some fantastic shots of all the activities we complete over there – from mountain climbing, kayaking on Milford Sound to Zip-lining. My husband is also considering the forward-facing abseil that you can do down a building in Auckland – it would be fantastic if he was able to capture the moment at the same time. 🙂

  • Reply Robyn Smith October 10, 2014 at 6:51 AM

I would love a GoPro Hero 3 to record my Australian family’s European adventures for the few years we are lucky enough to live in Germany and before my teenage daughters are too cool to travel with their parents!

  • Reply Melissa Trinidad October 10, 2014 at 5:07 PM

Paragliding is on my bucket list of things to do. I’ve gone skydiving 4 times so it only seems natural I would give that a try. I’m going to Australia in a couple of weeks and it’s my understanding this is a great country to do it in.

  • Reply Charli-Rae Dougherty October 10, 2014 at 11:09 AM

I would use it snowboarding. I have a season pass to a ski resort and would love to be able to document all the fun things we experience every trip. It would be awesome to capture the first time succeeding in a specific trick or doing an intense run. I would also love to use this for my many other outdoor sports such as snowmobiling, horseback riding, dirt biking, hiking and water skiing. Unfortunately, I would have bought oneyears ago but being in university I can’t afford it. Needless to say, if I win, I will use it until it doesn’t work any more.

  • Reply Tristan Cuschieri October 10, 2014 at 11:59 AM

Planning a skydiving trip fairly soon, and would love to take a GoPro up (and down) with me!

    • Reply Cheryl Howard October 12, 2014 at 7:59 PM

How exciting! Sounds like a lot of fun. 🙂

  • Reply Derek Freal October 10, 2014 at 4:46 PM

I purchased a drone with GoPro mount yesterday and it should be arriving in the mail Monday or Tuesday. Now all I need is a GoPro and I’ll be shooting some amazing aerial footage from all the exotic places I visit.

Just think of it, cruising down the Ganges from 1,000 feet in the air or a flight through the Grand Canyon. I already have and use Premiere on a regular basis too (in other words I’m already experienced at editing video footage). Last thing on the list: a GoPro. Can you help me out?

  • Reply Illia Strikhar October 10, 2014 at 4:54 PM

Together with my wife I constantly travel and take loooots of pictures. Go Pro will open up a whole new world of possibilities, from bright photos from NYC skyscrapers to intimate pics from South American rainforests. 🙂

  • Reply Kay Dougherty October 10, 2014 at 5:18 PM

My sister and I are going back to Fiji on a small ship cruise to the Lau Islands. When we were in Fiji a couple months ago we decided that when we go back we want to have a GoPro. I’d put it in a waterproof housing and on a strap around my (not very ample) chest. We saw someone doing that and he got amazing footage! This would be a huge help in getting us to do more (OK, anything) with video.

  • Reply Cacinda Maloney October 10, 2014 at 5:50 PM

I’m dying for a go pro! I was just on a press dive trip trip in the Cancun underwater museum with Bret Love of Green Global Travel and seeing him put that long stick with his go pro attached on the end down in between the statues made me very jealous. I want a go pro to take on my trip to Galapagos with Ecoventura – Galapagos!! I cannot wait to photograph above ground and under the sea!

  • Reply Jeremy Jones October 10, 2014 at 5:53 PM

I’m heading to Sri Lanka in November and would love to take a new Go Pro out for a spin during the tour! Seeing a lot of different aspects of the country and would be a great camera to capture it with.

  • Reply William Castillo October 10, 2014 at 7:26 PM

Love your photo. I went paragliding in the outskirts of Innsbruck over a year ago and a GOPro would have been really handy. I would love take a GoPro in my upcoming trip to Cuba where I will be doing parasailing and windsurfing.

I’m not sure that I’m brave enough for something like ziplining but we are going on a trip over Christmas that is going to involve me putting on cross-country skis and snowshoes – it might be fun to record that on a GoPro!

  • Reply Tonya Prater October 10, 2014 at 9:27 PM

I love the time lapse videos that can be created with a GoPro. I’d use it on my next road trip but I wouldn’t be the only one in the house to put it to use. My teens would use it when skydiving, riding motorcycles and snow boarding. They’re much more adventurous than I.

During our forthcoming 11 month hitchhiking trip across Asia we are planning to show people what hitchhiking really looks like, from searching out a place to catch a lift, through waiting, negotiating the lift, getting in the car and finally to enjoying your ride with the driver. A GoPro camera is an indispensable tool for such an endeavour! 🙂

The end of the year in Sydney, then Melbourne, the Australian outback, Darwin and great barrier reef – diving – and finally the wonderful world of Hutt River, the independent kingdom inside Australia which is not recognized by no one of the world countries, exception for the Vatican. In this trip, I wanna talk with people, aborigines, visit kangaroo, Koala and the fauna of the barrier. I want to daydream and film it.

Our next travel is around the world and we have just sold everything we own – first stop in Thailand – I’d love to give people on our blog a cool perspective of time lapse photos, a perspective of biking, running, hiking any activities like a walking tour on Khao San road or our motorbike trip around Koh Samui and the other islands!

    please pick me!!

I love that picture, Cheryl! It makes me want to jump off of something high as well (though, I must admit, the idea kind of frightens me! But I’ve always wanted to go paragliding, it seems less scary than parachuting down – not knowing if the piece of fabric will actually open up!) As a location independent yoga teacher and nutritionist, I’d love to travel with a GoPro in my backpack, so that I can share my experiences and insights whilst on the road (the next couple of months alone will take me from Canada, through the Us, to Norway, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Thailand, back to Canada, and perhaps Costa Rica – I can barely imagine this is my life!! Haha)
Keep up adventuring, can’t get enough of fun action shots! (info at saargrolleman dot com!)

I’d use the GoPro during the upcoming ski season, and for scuba diving next summer!

I don’t have any set travel plans at the moment, though my next trip is shaping up to be San Francisco. I’m sure my adventures will include a bike, so I’d love to have a GoPro for my two wheeled journey. I would also love to bring along a GoPro on my next 5k. I saw a few other people with one during my last race and I was super jealous!

Melinda – Sorry but as you did not leave your last name, you do not qualify for the contest.

Hi Cheryl! What an amazing opportunity + giveaway. Thanks so much!

I have been wishing for a while that I could use a GoPro for biking videos. I write often about seeing cities on bicycle and it’s hard to capture that experience with your phone while you’re riding. 🙂

I would also make videos of other travels (long walks around Europe) but it’s the biking that makes me keep checking the price of them. 🙂

    Hello,

Me and my boyfriend are going to Manchester, UK, in one moth, actually is the one crazy about GoPro and is collecting money to buy one.
It would be awsome to win this one and give him so that we could take it in our next trip and maybe…he will ask me to marry me there, who knows?! 🙂

    Thanks for this opportunity.
