The Rio Diaries – Day 7

Although I was thoroughly enjoying my time at Hotel Santa Teresa, I needed to venture out and explore more of Rio de Janeiro before departing for home. This was an “adventure” trip after all. 🙂

Day 7 was all about indulging in retail therapy. I decided to go shopping in the very lovely Leblon area and headed out to a mall called Shopping Leblon.

I was amused to see that they had many chain stores that we have  such as Zara, Starbucks, the Gap and Accessorize. However, I was more interested in shopping in the Brazilian clothing stores so I could up some unique fashion pieces. I did some damage and left with a really nice pair of off white, leather peep toe sandals and two dresses – one seriously sexy simple black dress and another ivory colored dress with a cute little brown belt. I can’t wait to wear them!

The mall itself was interesting. I saw a rich couple who brought their nanny with them to watch their baby while they did their shopping. I (sadly watched) a group of ladies who’s job was to walk around the mall all day with a stick and remove all the shoe scuffs and smudges left by the shoppers. Imagine if that was your job!? Perhaps better than nothing?

Had lunch in the mall as well while enjoying a nice view of the nearby mountains and water. Beautiful!

Got ripped off by another cab driver too. The guy who drove me to the mall charged me $40 in their currency when the guy who drove me back to the hotel only charged me $20. Such scammers!

Didn’t do too much for the rest of the day – spent some time reading, napping, and dining for a second time at Tereze, the restaurant in the hotel. Another yummy meal with a book in hand and a couple glasses of fine red, Brazilian wine. All in all, another good day.
