Weird and Offbeat Sites: An Insiders Look At The Lloyd Hotel.

Lloyd Hotel And Cultural Embassy.
(Last Updated On: September 12, 2019)

It was just last month that I told you all about why I think The Lloyd Hotel and Cultural Embassy in Amsterdam is absolutely the coolest hotel out there. And not just because they host fancy and artsy shoe exhibits either. Loyal fans who hang on to my each and every word (there has to be at least one of you … mom?!) will know that the hotel has 116 rooms in which no two are exactly alike and range from 1 star – 5 star.

While there, I was lucky enough to score a private tour of the hotel’s room offerings. A big thanks to the staff of the Lloyd Hotel for showing me around! Now it’s my turn to show you around this insane yet extraordinary place.

A One Star Room.

You’ve already seen what my room looked like and you can see that although this one is different, its not really so very different. I liked mine better actually as it was more spacious and had a better view. This one was still quite cute nonetheless. I especially love their use of the orange curtains and how they retained the building’s original blue-green tiles.

You have to share a bathroom when staying in a one star room, but you’re provided with slippers and a robe for the journey there and back.

A Two Star Room

While I didn’t view a two star room myself, these rooms are known for being spacious and even having hidden “fold away” bathrooms! Yes, you read that correctly. Keep reading to find out *just* how these bathrooms work.

A Three Star Room

This is when things started to get really interesting, appealing to my fondness for all things weird and offbeat. Some rooms feature bedside tables on wheels and those “fold away” bathrooms found in some of the two star rooms.

This very red room which must surely be appealing to passionate lovers has one of these bedside tables which you can freely move alongside the bed.

Now for that “fold away” bathroom! Below you see a lovely room with a small washing area.

Pull open a large door and you’ll find a bathroom complete with shower and toilet (not pictured but located to the left of the sink). When you’re done, you simply shut the door and “fold” the bathroom away.

A Four Star Room

I also never had the chance to visit a four star room either (we were obviously only able to look at rooms that weren’t occupied).  One of the four star rooms at the Lloyd Hotel features a cupboard bed while another one is garden themed.

A Five Star Room

Now you’ll begin to understand why I used the word insane earlier in the post. Each of the five star rooms is an adventure in itself with rooms that have grand piano or a spiral staircase leading to a bed.

I was treated to a room with a swing (no, it’s not a sex swing) and a room with a bed that sleeps eight people!

In the room with the swing, I picture myself getting out of bed in the morning, jumping on the swing and straight into the giant bathtub.

This room also happens to come with an unforgettable view.

And finally, the “pièce de résistance” – the room with a bed that sleeps eight people. Apparently the artist who designed this room had it in mind that the bed was like a stage for a band. Or maybe the bed was the place they could retire with their groupies after the concert was over?!

Just what’s behind that green door?

A really really green bathroom!

This hotel is obviously not for everyone. Not all of the rooms are the most practical or even make sense. But that’s what makes them unique and strangely beautiful as each room is it’s own work of art. If you’re an unconventional type and desire something different when you’re travelling to Amsterdam, then a stay at the Lloyd Hotel is a must.

Holy crap, this place looks amazing! Especially that orgy bed… Just kidding? Seriously, though, rooms with swings – why is this not a feature that every hotel offers to their visitors?

@Tristan – Crazy wild place or what? I wish I had I swing in my room at home!

Hey… you forgot to mention that this place was a prison before… even worse was the prison of the Gestapo during WWII. I did stay there and could not manage to sleep as I could only think about those men and women and children who died there, in those (now funny) rooms… I hate this hotel. 🙁

Hiya – I wrote about the history in another post. I stayed here and loved it and appreciate how it’s been made from a place with a dark past into a totally cool and fun spot. 🙂

Obviously, it’s not for everyone and it’s best to inform yourself about a place before booking so you can make up your mind if you want to stay there.
